Upcycled Silver, Reimagined: Alta's Ornamentation
Alta’s Ornamentation is rooted in memory, creativity, and a lifelong love of making something meaningful out of what already exists. Inspired by the artistry and resourcefulness of her grandmother, Alta Ethilda Barnhart, the maker behind Alta’s Ornamentation transforms vintage silver plate and found materials into mobiles, jewelry, and chimes that are as thoughtful as they are musical.
Working from her basement studio, each piece is carefully cut, shaped, de-burred, buffed, and polished by hand using a wide range of traditional tools. Fishing line, beads, buttons, washers, and repurposed silver serving pieces come together in unexpected ways, often shaped into whimsical forms like fish and sea creatures, creating designs that feel playful, nostalgic, and one of a kind.
The natural patina of aged silver is embraced rather than erased, honoring the history of each piece and the stories it carries. Weight is thoughtfully considered, allowing varying tones to emerge when pieces move and chime together, resulting in creations that are not only visually striking but delightfully musical.
Every piece from Alta’s Ornamentation reflects generations of creativity, craftsmanship, and care, a celebration of reuse, memory, and the beauty found in transformation.
